Biography

Brian was born in the early 1960's in Dublin where he continues to live. He was first introduced to art by his late father William, himself a painter.

He studied technical drawing which gave him a very tight style of drawing with graphite and also a keen eye for perspective. After initially being self-taught in oils he decided to get a more classical training in order to create the style and type of work which he admired. Brian followed a classical atelier training learning drawing and painting under the American portrait artist William Nathans (Angle academy) and Toby Wright (Florence academy) and Amy Moseley (Charles H. Cecil).

His oil painting follows traditional methods and techniques. He enjoys portrait painting as he is keenly interested and amazed by the human body. His work reflects his interest people. Brian tries to reflect in his work the grandeur and sense of awe he feels by the beauty and wonder of the natural world around him. He has been inspired by artists of the baroque period particularly Vermeer and Caravaggio. He has taught for over three decades. Brian is passionate about cooking and food and he is also interested in flowers and gardens. He is also an avid reader of history.He has a keen interest in Baroque art.
